Following the wishes of her deceased husband, Danish Countess Henriette Danneskiold-Samsøe opened a glass factory in Holmegaard Mose Denmark in 1825 with the king of Denmark agreement.
At first the factory manufactures bottles but on the wish of the countess quickly glassblowers from Bohéme Italy will be able to create them, it is only the beginning of a long tradition. After decades Holmegaard Glassworks has become a big company, incorporating in the twentieth century numbers of talented artists and designers who have brought their vision and design allowing the company to produce original and exceptional glass objects.
Among them are: Arne Jacobsen, Jacob E. Bang, Bodil Kjaer, Louise Campbell and talented young designer Cecilie Manz.
It is with a high quality glass and skilled glassmakers that Holmegaard's mouth-blown glass and machine-made blown glass creations are produced.
