The Finnish company Artek, specialized in high-end Scandinavian furniture was founded in 1935 by the architect Alvar Aalto, his wife Aino Aalto, the visual arts promoter Maire Gullichsen and the art historian Nils-Gustav Hahl . The name Artek comes from their desire to combine art and technology to create high-quality functional and aesthetic furniture. Artek armchairs, chairs, stools, tables and other furniture are famously known for their comfort, solidity and organic style.
The most iconic products of Artek are no doubt those of Alvar Aalto. After having experimented extensively with the properties of wood, the architect developed a revolutionary process to obtain curves of more than 90 ° in the wood. He created the iconic "L" shape, which became the basis of many of his pieces of furniture. These include the famous Paimio chair, the Aalto 80 table or the legendary Stool 60.
Today, Artek works with architects, designers and artists from all around the world, such as Eero Aarnio, Shigeru Ban and Juha Leiviskä, to offer ever more innovative creations, halfway between furniture and works of art.
In collaboration with the brand, the shop La Boutique Danoise, located at 264 boulevard Saint Germain in Paris, exhibits a selection of Artek furniture.
