Design Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

Semis is the result of two years of intense research by Paris-based designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.

Aligned geometrically and placed in different rhythms by varying the densities and heights of the carpet's knotted surface, the resulting visual effect is that of an abstract landscape.  The irregularity of the cut edges is intentional. It creates a random surface of rare beauty and craftsmanship.

For Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, the shape of the polka dots, the cut, and the fact that several weavers have to tackle the task to create a single piece give the Semis rug a special, personal touch.

90% Tibetan wool 10% cotton

Made from hand-knotted Tibetan wool, Semis takes a long time to make using the sophisticated yet highly resistant Tibetan knotting technique.
